Indications
Constipation, heartburn, gas, and nausea are all treated with magnesium hydroxide suspension. It is also used to treat acute and long-term constipation caused by hyperacidity, a peptic ulcer, or stomatitis.
Pharmacology
Magnesium Hydroxide is also known as Magnesium Milk. It has a moderate antacid and laxative effect. It is poorly and slowly absorbed, and its osmotic characteristics in the luminal fluid promote fluid retention in the gut. It is beneficial for emptying the intestines before surgical, radiographic, and colonoscopic operations, and it can aid in the elimination of parasites after proper medication and poisonous substances in some cases of poisoning. In the stomach, magnesium hydroxide is transformed into magnesium chloride without the formation of carbon dioxide.
